Weddings at Modern Woodmen Park.

A minor league ballpark on the bank of the Mississippi, home of the Quad Cities River Bandits, where the spaces run from a suite to the outfield and the price runs from six hundred dollars to ten thousand. The thing worth knowing before anything else is what the river does, and it is not what you would guess.

Modern Woodmen Park wedding, Davenport, Iowa

Why Modern Woodmen Park photographs the way it does.

Start with the field, because that is why anyone looks here. Getting married on a professional baseball field, with the river on one side and downtown Davenport on the other, is a specific and unrepeatable thing to want. If it is what you want, nothing else in this guide is close, and Kinnick is the only other stadium here.

The pricing is unusually honest about what it is. Six hundred dollars to ten thousand, depending entirely on which space you take, and the venue explicitly does not sell all-inclusive packages. You sit down and pay for what you need. A suite for a rehearsal dinner and the whole park for a reception are different orders of magnitude and both are on the menu.

Now the river. Modern Woodmen Park sits on the Davenport riverfront, and Davenport famously has no permanent floodwall. The ballpark itself is well defended: a nine foot berm went into the outfield in 2004 and a removable flood wall around the perimeter followed in 2011, and in the record flooding of 2019 the stadium stayed dry. What failed was getting to it. The car park flooded, the portable pedestrian bridge over River Drive and the rail line could not be installed that year, and the River Bandits played forty of their first forty three games on the road. The building survives. Access is the thing that does not.

What you actually need to know

Guest capacity
Not published, which is unusual but understandable given the range. The spaces run from the Champions Club and Diamond Club through the suite level to the concourse, the plaza and the field itself. Ask for the seated number in the specific space you are considering rather than a number for the park.
Ceremony sites
The field is the headline. Outdoor spaces, the plaza and the sky deck are the others, with indoor lounges as the weather option. Confirm what field access actually means, including whether you walk on the playing surface and what footwear is permitted.
Reception spaces
Champions Club, Diamond Club, the suite level, the Mediacom Sports Lounge and the concourse. Indoor and outdoor spaces both look at downtown Davenport and the river.
Getting ready
Ask. A ballpark has clubhouses and suites but they are working rooms rather than bridal suites, so find out exactly what you get and what it looks like.
If it rains
Good in the ordinary sense, because the indoor lounges and suites exist. The unusual risk here is not rain on the day but river level in the weeks before, which is a different problem and is covered below.
What it costs
$600 to $10,000 per wedding depending on the space and what you use. There are no all-inclusive packages by design; the staff price what you actually need. Ask what the field alone costs against a suite, because those are the two ends of that range.
What's included
Catering is available in house with buffets, stations, hors d'oeuvres, cocktail service and staff. Beyond food, get the inclusions itemised, since a pay-for-what-you-need model means very little is assumed.
Parking
On site by the river, and free of the downtown scramble. Note the same car park is the first thing to go under in high water.
Where guests stay
None on site. Downtown Davenport hotels are a short walk, and Hotel Blackhawk is close.
End of night
Ask, and ask in the context of the baseball calendar rather than a nightly rule.
Vendor rules
Catering is in house. Confirm the alcohol arrangement and what may be brought onto the field specifically, because a playing surface has rules that a lawn does not.

Worth knowing early: Two calendars, and they are different problems. The first is baseball: this is an active minor league ballpark and home games take the venue, so your date has to be checked against the River Bandits schedule before anything else. The second is the river. The park is defended by a berm and a removable flood wall and it stayed dry through the record 2019 flood, but the access road, the car park and the pedestrian bridge did not, and the team played forty of its first forty three games elsewhere that year. A spring wedding here should have a genuine conversation about what happens if the Mississippi is high in the week before, because the honest answer is that the building will be fine and your guests may not be able to reach it.

The four places worth your time

01

On the field

The hour before sunset

Outfield grass, the river beyond, downtown on the other side. It is the frame the venue exists to give you and it will not look like anybody else's wedding. Find out where you are allowed to stand before the day, because a playing surface is maintained turf and not a lawn.

02

The seating bowl from the field

Any hour

Shooting up into empty stands puts scale and geometry behind two people. An empty stadium is a strange and photogenic thing and it is the shot people do not think to ask for.

03

The Centennial Bridge and the river

Golden hour into dusk

Steel and water directly beside the park. The bridge is the landmark that says Quad Cities rather than says stadium.

04

The concourse and the suites at night

After dark

Ballpark lighting is unlike anything else in this guide. Use the stadium lights rather than fighting them.

Your day, hour by hour

MorningElsewhere; arrive ready.
MiddayConcourse shade or indoors. Open outfield at noon is unforgiving.
Late afternoonThe bowl begins to throw shadow across the field. Watch where the line falls.
SunsetThe field and the river together. Twenty minutes, protected.
After darkUnder the stadium lights, which is the shot nobody else has.

01

Check two calendars, not one

The baseball schedule decides whether the date exists. The river decides whether people can get to it. Both need answering before a deposit, and only the first is on anybody's website.

02

The 2019 lesson is about access

The park stayed dry behind its berm and flood wall. The car park, the road and the pedestrian bridge did not, and the team played almost the whole first half away. If you are booking April, May or early June, ask exactly what the plan is if the river is up.

03

Ask where you may stand

A professional playing surface is maintained turf with rules attached. Heels, chairs, arches and a hundred and fifty guests are all questions to settle in writing rather than discover from a groundskeeper.

04

Shoot the empty stands

The seating bowl behind a couple gives scale that no ballroom can. An empty stadium at dusk is the reason to be here and it is the frame most people forget to plan for.

What couples ask about this venue.

Can you get married on the field at Modern Woodmen Park?

The field is one of the spaces offered, alongside the plaza, sky deck, suite level and indoor lounges. Confirm what field access means in practice, including where you may stand on the playing surface and what footwear and structures are permitted.

How much does a wedding at Modern Woodmen Park cost?

Between $600 and $10,000 depending on the space and what you use. The venue deliberately does not sell all-inclusive packages; staff price what you actually need, so a suite and the whole park sit at opposite ends of that range.

Does flooding affect weddings there?

Potentially, and not in the way people expect. The ballpark is protected by a nine foot outfield berm and a removable flood wall, and it stayed dry in the record 2019 flooding. The problem that year was access: the car park flooded and the pedestrian bridge could not be installed, and the River Bandits played 40 of their first 43 games on the road. For a spring date, ask what happens if the river is high.

Do home games affect availability?

Yes. This is an active minor league ballpark and the River Bandits schedule comes first. Check your date against it before anything else, and note the venue has a separate contact for bookings during home games.

How many guests does it hold?

Not published, because the spaces range from a suite to the outfield. Ask for the seated figure in the specific space you are considering rather than for the park as a whole.
