Guest capacity

The city's facility listing gives the Full Banquet Hall at 300, the Half Banquet Hall at 12 to 100, the Patio and Event Canopy at 225, a Lower Level Event Space at 120, and a Board Room at 12. Some third party listings quote the full hall lower, around 200 to 240. Take the official number as the starting point and get the seated figure for your own floor plan with a dance floor in it.

Ceremony sites

The Patio and Event Canopy is the outdoor option and it is covered, which is a materially better rain plan than a lawn. Indoors, the banquet hall handles ceremonies with a flip afterwards.

Reception spaces

Full or half banquet hall depending on your numbers, with Divots Bar and Grill inside the clubhouse for cocktail hour while the room turns over. Divots looks out at the eighteenth hole and Brown Deer Lake, so the flip hour has a view rather than a corridor.

Getting ready

Ask what is available and when. A working public clubhouse has golfers in it from early morning, so getting ready on site is a question about access and privacy rather than about whether a room exists.

If it rains

Better than most outdoor venues here, because the canopy is covered rather than open lawn, and the banquet hall is a real indoor fallback. Ask whether the canopy has sides, because Iowa rain arrives sideways as often as it arrives down.

What it costs

Brown Deer works from a preferred caterer list rather than a fully open one. Confirm who is actually running the kitchen for your date, because the operator has changed: older reviews praise catering by the Marriott, while the current events contact is an address at Bread Garden Market. Ask, and taste it yourself.

Worth knowing early: Photographs on the course. Ask three specific questions before you sign: do we get a cart, which holes may we use, and at what time. On a private club you would have latitude; on a public course the golfers who paid for a tee time have priority and the answer may be later in the evening than your timeline assumes. Also worth knowing: never stand on a green or a tee box in a dress without clearance, because it is a turf question and a safety one at the same time.
