Eagle Ridge is not a barn and not a ballroom. It is a resort in the Galena Territory, and the thing it does that almost no Midwestern venue can is hold your whole wedding, your whole guest list and your whole weekend on one property. Guests fly or drive in Friday, play golf, eat dinner together, watch you get married Saturday over Lake Galena, and walk back to their rooms. Nobody arranges a shuttle. Nobody drives home.
For photography, the property gives three distinct looks inside a golf cart ride: water at the Point, woodland along the ridge roads, and the tall glass of the Eagle Ballroom for weather that will not cooperate. The land rolls hard here, more Driftless than prairie, so the horizon has depth that flat Iowa ground cannot give you.
Galena itself is fifteen minutes down the hill: brick main street, hillside staircases, nineteenth century storefronts. Couples who want a portrait set that looks nothing like their ceremony site can have both on the same day. I photograph the Galena corridor regularly out of Cedar Rapids, and it is worth the drive for exactly this reason.

- The Point Patio is the signature: a deck that reads as though it floats over the hillside, with Lake Galena behind you. Ballroom patios and lawn sites handle larger or weather dependent ceremonies.
- Reception spaces
- Eagle Ballroom, with 25 foot floor to ceiling windows and a wraparound deck for cocktails. Galena Ballroom, with an outdoor patio running its full length. Both look out over the lake and the Territory hills.
- Getting ready
- Resort rooms and suites on property. Ask specifically for a room with north or east facing windows and get ready near them; resort rooms tend toward warm lamp light, and window light will always be kinder.
- If it rains
- This is Eagle Ridge's real advantage. Both ballrooms are glass walled, so an indoor ceremony still has the lake in frame. A rained out wedding here does not look like a rained out wedding.
- What it costs
- Plated dinner packages run about $115 to $125 per person, dinner stations from about $120, and November through April winter dates start near $89. Add roughly 22 percent service charge plus tax. Children twelve and under are billed around $31 to $35. Verify current numbers with the venue.
- What's included
- Room layout design, floor length linens in black, white or ivory, china and glassware, votives, dance floor, and an on site venue coordinator. Book twenty or more guest rooms and the wedding night stay is complimentary, with discounted rates for guests.

- Ample on site and free, which matters because most guests will be staying on property and never move their cars after check in.

- Hotel rooms, villas and rental homes across the Territory. Twenty or more rooms unlocks the room block benefits, so build the block early; Galena books out in fall.
- Vendor rules
- Catering and bar are in house through the resort. Confirm outside vendor rules, load in windows and end times directly, as resort policies differ from a rental venue's.
Worth knowing early: October in Galena is peak leaf season for the whole Chicago market. Book eighteen months out for an autumn Saturday, and get your room block up the same week you sign.
